Lately, the government has mandated that all mutual fund investments must be linked to Aadhaar numbers. Failing which, you may not be able to transact in your fund folios. To stay away from such uncomfortable experience, you should link Aadhaar with your mutual fund investments ASAP.
Since permanent account number (PAN) was mandatory for all investments in mutual funds for a long time, it makes linking Aadhaar to your mutual fund investments quite convenient. Typically an investor distributes investments across schemes and across fund houses to mitigate the risk, you need not to approach every individual mutual fund to update your Aadhaar number. The process is easy, simply approach the registrar and transfer agents (RTA) – record keepers for the mutual funds. The RTAs, in turn, update your details with all the mutual fund they service and you’re all set.
There are four RTAs and here is how you can update your Aadhaar details:
CAMS supports 15 mutual funds like HSBC, DSP Blackrock, HDFC, ICICI Prudential, IDFC, IIFL, Kotak, SBI, Tata and other. To update your Aadhaar number in the records of mutual funds catered by CAMS, simply click here. Keep your PAN, Aadhaar and other details such as date of birth, mobile numbers (registered with Aadhaar and MF) ready. Once you enter your details and the details are verified online, within seconds you are allowed to add your Aadhaar. You will receive an OTP on your registered mobile. After you insert the OTP on CAMS you are done.
You get a confirmation screen and following it CAMS will also send SMS and E-mail for Aadhaar-updation for the same.
